1. Borley Rectory
The Borley Rectory, built in 1862 in Essex, England, was always thought to be haunted. Its most notorious hauntings occurred in 1900 and 1928. In 1900, four of the rector’s daughters saw the ghost of a nun forty yards from the house near twilight. In 1928, Reverend Guy Eric Smith’s wife found in the cupboard a brown paper bag which contained the skull of a young woman. The house was badly damaged by a fire in 1939 and subsequently demolished in 1944.
